When you elected me Mayor, I made 7 pldeges which I want you to hold me to.

In 2002 when I was first elected I published a set of priorities that I would deliver on during my term. Now I've been re-elected it's time to renew those promises and pledges. Below are my priorities for my coming term in office. They describe those aspects of life in Newham that residents have told me matter the most.

1 Spending wisely: Newham's people are not careless with their money, and neither is their council. I will ensure that any council tax increases will be lower than those of comparable councils.
1 A Better Environment for All: People will have more control over their environment to drive the improvements they want. There will be more localised parking management, better targeting of litter hotspots and the recycling rate will rise faster than any other borough.
1 Feeling and Being Safer: People will feel safer living in Newham and be more satisfied with our response to anti-social behaviour. I'm going to make sure the police and council are more responsive to local people's needs.
1 An Active and Inclusive Community: Across Newham people of all ages, all faiths, all cultures and all backgrounds will be more active and engaged in the community through voluntary work, new clubs and societies and more opportunities for older people.
1 Better Health and Well-being: We'll work with the NHS to make sure their plans reflect the health needs of Newham's people. We will bring all our homes up to the "decent homes" standard and bring 2000 more homes in from the private sector for local people by 2010.
1 Investing in Young People: Newham's schools will continue to equip young people with the skills they need to thrive. We will involve young people more in the decisions that affect them by establishing an elected Young Mayor for Newham.
1 Business Growth and Better Access to Jobs: We will make sure people can access the opportunities the Olympics will bring, creating a "one-stop shop" with the help and advice people need to find work. We'll crack down on those employers who still don't pay the minimum wage.

If you want to see the progress I made on the last seven pledges see my Annual Report, published towards the end of my last term.
